A Brit Shalom is a baby naming or covenant ceremony for Jewish families opting out of circumcision. You can find an officiant for your ceremony here, or contact your local congregational rabbi for a ceremony. Brit shalom families may not realize they’re completely welcome in most Reform and other progressive congregations and Jewish institutions.

Celebrating Brit Shalom is a book of ceremonies and music created specifically for families opting out of circumcision or considering that option. It includes general information, suggestions, and original music written for a brit shalom celebration. Order a copy online or purchase a copy at Afikomen or another local independent bookstore. For bulk orders for your ceremony—and to receive free MP3s of the music—please contact the publisher.

In considering brit shalom, some families may need guidance or support. Please feel free to contact the brit shalom families coordinator, Lisa Braver Moss, via her contact page.

Another recommended website is Beyond the Bris, which was launched by Rebecca Wald 2010 as a unique forum for Jewish people who question male infant circumcision. It is a place to share thoughts, feelings, and experiences with like-minded Jewish people and with the project’s global visitors. The pace, scope, and direction of the project are dynamic and determined by a diverse group of contributing writers who share their unique stories and perspectives.
