The Berson Family of Berkeley

Ariel and Eric live in Berkeley with their children Jonah (almost 8!) and Ellie (age 5). They moved to Berkeley 11 years ago from New York and have found a wonderful Jewish community. They’re members of Congregation Netivot Shalom where Ellie attended preschool. They love going to services on Shabbat mornings.

Both kids also attend Edah, a Jewish after-school program. They wanted Jonah and Ellie to attend public school in Berkeley and also get a Jewish education — Edah makes it possible to do both. They’ve been amazed at how quickly the kids have picked up Hebrew. The Bersons have also attended programs at Urban Adamah like camp for the kids and the ’80s dance parties and Havdalah nights for the grown-ups.

Both kids have been receiving PJ Library books since they were infants. They have a tradition of visiting the Redwood Grove at the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden for Tu B’Shvat and always bring along their PJ Library books about the holiday to read among the trees.
