Scholarship Awards

The Jewish Community Foundation of the Greater East Bay is pleased to offer the following scholarships and awards through select endowment funds. These endowment funds establish a permanent source of funding to strengthen Jewish life and literacy in the East Bay, providing youth and their families with access to college education, Jewish summer camps, programs in Israel and leadership development opportunities. Travel and Study in Israel
Deadline to apply: The Foundation accepts applications on a rolling basis and requests are reviewed each quarter.
Deadlines for quarterly review:
September 1
December 1
March 2 (for Let's Go! Israel Requests)
June 1

Four endowment funds provide scholarships for high school, college, and post-college young adults to attend a Jewish program of travel, study or volunteering in Israel. Students attend high-school programs such as the East Bay Federation’s Let’s Go! teen trip and Project Otzma. College programs of study take place at institutions including the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Pardes, and Yeshiva Ohr Sameach.

Hurwitz Summer Camperships Fund
Deadline to apply: April 25, 2008

Financial Aid is available for eligible East Bay Jewish summer day camp programs from The Jewish Community Foundation's Hurwitz Summer Camperships Fund. Click here to download an application, due April 25.

College Education
Spring and Fall deadlines: September 5, 2008 and April 15, 2009

The Weingarten Philanthropic Fund of The Jewish Community Foundation provides need-based financial aid for young adults to attend an eligible university. Preference will be given to Jewish applicants who are Bay Area residents and have demonstrated academic achievement. To download an application, click here.

Jewish Arts, Scholarship and Education
Deadline to apply: February 4, 2008

The Fromer Fund provides an annual incentive award of approximately $1,000 for projects in Jewish arts, scholarship or education. Past awards have supported the production of films, curricula, journals, and exhibits.

Jewish Communal Leadership Development
Nomination deadline: May 5, 2008

The Lesser Leadership Development Fund provides stipends for outstanding young leaders to attend a Federation-related event such as the General Assembly or overseas mission. To request a nomination form, contact Sarah Wachs at sarah@jfed.org or 510.839.2900 ext. 266.
