The Jewish Community Foundation, servicing the Greater East Bay, helps East Bay Jews act on their values of tikkun olam and tzedakah. We do this by providing Jewish donors with information and valuable tools that help them make the most impact with their philanthropic dollars.

TJCF manages just over $86 million in charitable assets and in 2009-10 made grants totaling $8 million to nonprofit programs and organizations all over the world. TJCF has nearly 200 funds, including 86 endowment funds, 92 donor-advised funds and 11 supporting foundations.

General Summary:
This position is ideal for a person who is looking for a dynamic work environment, enjoys multi-tasking and trouble-shooting, is highly organized, possesses the ability to work both independently and with multiple teams and committee members, and is oriented towards excellence in service. This person reports to the Executive Director.

Essential Functions:
• Staff endowment committees with special interests to annually distribute the available money.
• Research and reach out to individuals and families who have Jewish charitable vehicles (i.e. supporting foundations, Donor Advised Funds, etc) who are not yet associated with The Jewish Community Foundation.
• Meet with endowment funders and their families, compile data on the applicants, and send reports on the distributions to the funders and their families.
• Create meeting agendas and manage meeting set-ups.
• Create and compile grant evaluations for recipients/beneficiaries.
• Manage and monitor existing initiatives and grants, working with staff and outside program officers and volunteer committees.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree with 1-2 years experience.
• A minimum of 1 year of project management and/or grant experience, managing complex projects involving a variety of stakeholders preferably within Jewish communal organizations.
• Demonstrated knowledge/understanding of the Jewish community of the East Bay.
• Demonstrated ability to establish strategy, develop work plans, multi-task, and deliver superior quality work on time and within budgetary guidelines.
• Superb analytic, problem identification and critical reasoning skills. Able to anticipate needs, recommend options and implement solutions.
• Experience with Internet, research databases, and Microsoft Office 2007.
• Excellent writing and communication skills, with an ability to translate complex ideas into clear, easy-to-understand concepts.

This is a 10 – 18 hour/week position. Ideal applicant should be flexible as to hours worked as work is seasonal. Benefits include paid vacation and sick-time; medical benefits are not provided.

Chief Financial Officer

Organization:
The Jewish Federation of the East Bay and The Jewish Community Foundation are dedicated to building a vibrant and inclusive local Jewish community and to enhancing the well-being of Jews in the East Bay, Israel, and throughout the world.

The Federation’s Annual Campaign raises approximately $3 million to support organizations critical to a strong Jewish community. Our goal is to create a cutting edge, donor-centric next generation Federation.

The Jewish Community Foundation, an $82 million charitable organization houses endowment funds that benefit the Jewish Community Federation and other local Jewish non-profit organizations. The Foundation also holds more than 100 donor-advised funds and is the umbrella for several supporting foundations.

General Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the CFO supervises five employees.

The CFO works closely with the Finance Committee on the annual budget and cash-flow management. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for all financial operations related to the physical management and maintenance of the facilities.

Essential Functions:
• Develop financial policies, procedures, annual operating and capital budgets.
• Prepare financial statements including reporting revenues, expenses, budget variances, and cash flows on a monthly basis.
• Develop and implement controls to assure the integrity of the accounting system, including the implementation of audit recommendations.
• Serve as staff liaison to the Finance Committee and to the outside auditor.
• Streamline, and recommend improvements and updates to database management software (for use in Finance, Development, and Operations departments).
• Implement “best practices” for Federation and Foundation.
• Manage and maintain relationships with banks (i.e. monitor compliance with line of credit covenants).
• Supervise annual audit of the Federation, Foundation and Supporting Foundations.
• Administer the 403b plan.
• Oversee and report on Federation and Foundation cash management, investments and asset allocation rebalancing.
• Purchase all property and liability insurance for the Federation, Foundation and other covered institutions as well as oversee certificate program and claims reporting.
• Assure completion and timely filing of required local, state and federal returns and legal documents.
• Manage physical operations of the property.
• Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Finance or related field
• CPA/MBA a plus
• Five years minimum of a leadership role in a nonprofit environment
• Up-to-date on trends in non-profit and foundation financial reporting and management
• Superior verbal and written communication skills
• Honesty, a sense of humor, and common sense are essential as is the ability to maintain confidentiality.
