The Federation and Foundation offer you many ways to demonstrate your concern and support for the issues facing our community today and for generations to come. We help you live generously, yet in a way that truly reflects your values, your vision and your personal philanthropic goals. By partnering with individuals and families to support a wide range of causes and organizations, we help you ensure the strength and continuity of Jewish life here in the East Bay, nationally and around the world. Whether you make a contribution to the Community Campaign or make a legacy gift, we can help you focus your resources to make a greater impact.
We fund and support a broad network of organizations that focus on two critical things:
No family should have to choose between paying the rent and paying for a child’s Jewish education, or between summer camp and a trip to Israel. That’s why we’re investing in the strength of our community by making experiences that build Jewish identity available to everyone. Federation funds preschools, day schools, synagogues and JCCs that are centers for Jewish life and learning in our community. We help send young people to Israel on Birthright trips and other programs. We introduce families with young children to Jewish life through PJ Library®. And we offer scholarships to make Jewish life accessible to all. We believe that everyone in our community should be able to connect to Jewish life - whether through love of Israel or love of learning, through social action or social events.
The Federation believes that we have a responsibility to one another and to all mankind. And we believe in our power to make a difference. During natural disasters and humanitarian crises, we’re often the first on the ground providing aid, comfort and support.
Cultural events engage as well as provide significant outreach to the unaffiliated in our community. They allow us to step out of our own silos so that we are better able to experience our common roots. We seek to provide Jewish experiences that help us to stay more connected to our Jewishness.
The East Bay International Jewish Film Festival showcases movies from around the world, and helps to bridge cultural understanding and broaden horizons by provoking thought through film.
Our literary programs and Israel-focused cultural programming help to create bridges across ethnic, religious, international, age and other cultural lines.
The Jewish Community Foundation helps us act on our values of tzedakah (charitable giving) and tikkun olam (repairing the world). We provide East Bay donors with the knowledge and tools to make a bigger difference with their charitable dollars — and fulfill community needs.
The Foundation works with more than 125 individuals and families, along with 21 agencies, synagogues and day schools. We manage over $100 million in assets and 200 funds, including more than 100 donor advised funds and supporting foundations, and 96 endowments and other agency funds.
In fiscal year 2010-2011, the Foundation and its donors granted more than $7.4 million to a wide array of Jewish and secular non-profit organizations addressing local, national and overseas needs.
Our programs and services include:
Together with our growing community of givers, the Foundation is working to make our community stronger… here at home and around the world.
In Russia and other Eastern European countries, where Jewish life was nearly wiped out, we are nurturing an exciting resurgence of Jewish identity, rebuilding institutions, and preparing the next generation of leaders. Over 10,000 children now attend Jewish day school. Summer camps and Hillels are inspiring a life-long love for Israel and the Jewish people. And community centers throughout the region are filled with people learning their first words of Hebrew.
Even in Israel, where Jewish life might seem to be a given, we’re helping to ensure that the next generation and the generations beyond stay committed to their Jewish identity. We fund innovative programs that help young Israelis connect with the global Jewish People, and we help new immigrants from all over the world succeed as Israeli citizens.
The future of our Jewish community starts today — that’s why we’re engaging the next generation of Jewish leaders in our EastBayJews initiative. Through EastBayJews, Federation connects Jewish young adults (ages 22–45) to innovative opportunities for engagement, philanthropy, and leadership. These young adults build relationships with each other and with the Jewish community, deepening their commitment to and excitement about Jewish life.
Your generous gift to the Community Campaign will help enrich Jewish life in the East Bay, Israel and around the world. When combined with the gifts of others, it harnesses the power of many to make a meaningful difference.
