Special Education
The CJLL Special Education Department aims to support members of all abilities and their families in the East Bay Jewish community and to encourage all Jewish institutions to think about how they can support their communities’ diverse learners. We strive to create and enhance programs that promote meaningful involvement in Jewish communal life, high quality Jewish educational experiences and respect for all abilities. We provide a wide range of professional development opportunities for teachers in East Bay Jewish day schools, religious schools and preschools. In addition, the Special Education Department provides classroom observation, site-specific consultation, networking, program development and community building.

Widening the Tent: Special Education Speaker Series
Newly launched speaker series for parents, educators, clergy and clinicians addresses significant topics in Jewish special education from medication use to bar and bat mitzvah planning for a child with special needs.

Jewish Disabilities Awareness Month Observance
Activities throughout the month of February are designed to raise awareness of special needs and help break down physical, communication and attitudinal barriers throughout the East Bay Jewish community.
5x5: A Continuing Education Series for Teachers
A wonderful professional development opportunity for Jewish special educators, 5x5 workshops cover a range of subjects including differentiated instruction and effective methods for reaching all types of learners.
Special Educators Council
The Special Educators Council meets quarterly and brings individuals interested in or practicing Jewish special education at local Jewish institutions together to share ideas, build resources and develop programs that support and advance our area’s diverse learners.
